Red Spot 2004 is a single cask expression from the Spot range, a single pot still whiskey distilled at Midleton in Co. Cork in 2004 and bottled at nineteen years old in 2024. The Spot names come from the old Mitchell and Son practice of marking bonded casks with coloured paint; Red Spot is the fifteen year old, Marsala accented member of the family, and this single cask, number 217213, was released as 603 bottles for the Irish market.

Unusually, the whiskey spent its whole maturation in a Marsala wine cask rather than a bourbon barrel, the Sicilian fortified wine giving a deep seam of dried fruit, nuts and dark sweetness. Nineteen years of single pot still development brings baking spice, clove and pepper with an oily, waxy texture, and at cask strength, 58.5%, it is rich and concentrated, opening on water into a long, spiced, fruit sweet finish.
