Description
The Spot range grew out of the Mitchell & Son wine merchants in Dublin, who marked their bonded casks with dabs of coloured paint. Red Spot is the 15 Years Old in the family, a single pot still whiskey made at the Midleton distillery in Co. Cork and bottled at 46%.
Three cask types shape it, ex-bourbon barrels, Oloroso sherry butts and Marsala wine casks, the fortified wine giving a richer, cooked fruit sweetness over the honey and fresh orchard fruit. Underneath sits the peppery, oily pot still spice of malted and unmalted barley, with fifteen years lending a fresh oak edge. The wine cask influence sets it apart within the Spot range.
