Single grain Port Dundas, picked by casQueteers, a 25 year old grain, from 2000, drawn from cask 305276 and bottled at 58.2%. Only 145 bottles were released. The Glasgow grain distillery Port Dundas, dating to 1811 in the heart of Glasgow's blending trade, was a landmark Glasgow grain works until closed and cleared after 2010. Two fires in the early twentieth century could not halt its rise to the top.

Grain whisky like this was drawn off tall continuous column stills on wheat and malted barley, giving a soft, clean grain spirit. Matured in an ex-Bourbon barrel, wood that rounds the spirit gently. Two decades and more carry the grain into a deep, rounded maturity, concentrated and waxy. Filled at around sixty eight percent, the spirit slowly drew colour and sweetness from the wood.

Bottled without water at 58.2%, it is robust. Lignin gives vanilla, oak lactones lend a soft coconut, and a creme brulee and butterscotch note, set over the soft tropical fruit of well aged grain. It is plush and silky, the sweetness carried on an oily body. The finish is gentle, sweet and clean. This is a quiet farewell to a two hundred year old distillery.
