Description
Pommery helped establish the modern Brut style in the 19th century, and Brut Royal is its signature non-vintage cuvee. The blend brings together Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier from up to 40 different sites, including Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards on the Cote des Blancs and Montagne de Reims. The chalky soils give minerality and freshness, and the wine follows the traditional method, ageing more than three years in the house's historic chalk cellars for a fine bead and added complexity.
The colour is pale yellow with greenish highlights and a fine, persistent bead. The nose is fresh and lively, with white flowers and stone fruit. The palate shows delicate acidity, a pronounced saline minerality and subtle spice, with a light biscuit edge from the lees, closing precise and long. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass. It makes a classic aperitif and suits oysters, prawns, sushi and delicate fish, as well as white meat and poultry.
