An aged agricole from the Pirates Collection, carrying an eighteen year claim and ex-bourbon time, with tropical fruit, vanilla and allspice over a light, oily, vegetal body, finishing dry and woody at a measured 44%.
Description
Pirates Collection Jean Lafitte Tres Vieux Agricole is a cane juice rum aged to a stated eighteen years, a long matured agricole presented under a themed bottling range. At 44% and finished in ex-bourbon, it leans on extended time in wood rather than high strength for its character.
True to the agricole style, fresh cane juice gives a vegetal, grassy underpinning that the years in oak have layered with tropical and dried fruit, vanilla and allspice. The body is oily yet light, and the finish turns sweet then dry and woody. No added sugar is indicated, in keeping with the agricole tradition that shuns it, so the sweetness reads as cask and fruit derived. The result is a softer, mature agricole, more about fruit and wood integration than youthful cane bite, suited to slow sipping.
