A young five-year Panamanian ron from the Heffron range at 38%, light and sweet with vanilla, caramel, creme brulee and a cinnamon edge, a soft entry-level sipper that can show a faint youthful spirit note before it settles.
Description
Heffron 5YO Heritage Rum is the younger Panamanian release from the Czech house Palirna U Zeleneho Stromu, a molasses spirit distilled on a column still and given five years in ex-bourbon casks before bottling at a soft 38%. It sits at the entry end of the soft Panama style, aimed at easy, approachable drinking.
The nose can show a faint alcoholic lift alongside fruit, cinnamon and roasted notes, with a palate of wood, vanilla, caramel and a creme brulee sweetness. Once the glass settles it fills out into a milk chocolate, vanilla and roasted character, light-bodied and gently sweet throughout. It is a simple, soft introduction rather than a deep sipper, and its main appeal is as an inexpensive everyday pour, often sold in the small Heffron trio alongside its older siblings. For drinkers stepping into Panama-style rum it is an easy, undemanding start, best given a few minutes to open.
