Description
Miyagikyo 20 Years Old 1988 is a single malt from Nikka's Miyagi Prefecture distillery, distilled in 1988 and bottled in 2008 after a full two decades in cask. Vintage releases of this age from Miyagikyo are uncommon; the distillery, founded by Masataka Taketsuru in 1969 in a wooded valley near Sendai, typically concentrates its age-stated range in the 10-to-15-year tier, making a 20-year expression a significant departure.
Two decades in Ex-Bourbon casks draw out deep vanilla, coconut and soft wood spice from the distillery's orchard-fruit and malt base, with the extended maturation adding both complexity and a degree of dried-fruit depth. Bottled at cask strength at 50%, the spirit retains enough vitality to carry all that age without heaviness, a composed, historically grounded Miyagikyo.
