Description
Weinhof Leitner works in Austria, where Gelber Muskateller is prized for its floral, grapey lift. This Sekt is made by traditional bottle fermentation, with the second fermentation taking place in the bottle and around nine months resting on the lees before disgorgement. That lees contact adds depth and a finer bead without covering the variety's natural aromatics, and the wine is finished in the brut style so it stays dry and lively.
The wine is pale yellow with a lively perlage. The nose is fragrant and floral, with elderflower, honeysuckle and lemon over ripe white peach and a hint of chamomile. The palate is fresh and dry, with bright citrus, a hint of alpine herbs and a fine, well integrated mousse. The finish is clean and long. Serve well chilled at 6 to 8 degrees as an aperitif or with light starters. It suits goat's cheese salads, fine fish dishes and lighter Asian food built around herbs and citrus.
