Description
Erlkönig Frizzante comes from Weinhof Leitner in the Austrian region of Styria, a light and fruit driven pink fizz built from a cuvée of Zweigelt, Blauer Wildbacher, Cabernet Jura and the hybrid Concord. The base is matured dry in steel tanks and the sparkle is added under pressure, the tank approach that keeps the wine's fresh, primary berry character to the fore at a gentle 10 percent alcohol. It is made to drink young, ready on release and best within a couple of years of the vintage while the fruit is at its brightest.
The colour is a light rosé with a fine bead. Wild berries and redcurrant lead the nose over a fresh citrus edge, and the palate shows clear forest berry fruit with juicy weight and a light sweetness around 25 grams of residual sugar, closing round and fruity. Serve well chilled at 6 to 8 degrees. It works as an aperitif and suits light desserts, berry puddings, sorbets and summer snacks, the small bottle making it easy to open on a whim.
