Description
Sword Edition No.1 sits alongside the Axe in the Lady of Arms series from Irish Whiskeys, a German independent bottler working with stock from the Great Northern Distillery in Dundalk, Co. Louth. Distilled in 2017 from the classic pot still mash of malted and unmalted barley, it was bottled in 2023 at 6 Years Old, 235 bottles for the German market.
Maturation was ex-bourbon American oak alone, which keeps the spotlight on the spirit, vanilla and coconut from the cask against the peppery, gingery prickle and creamy weight that unmalted barley brings. Bottled at a cask strength of 56.7%, it is single pot still in its most unvarnished form, the style Ireland built its name on.
