Description
Single pot still is Ireland's own category, a mash of malted and unmalted barley run through copper pots, and the Great Northern Distillery in Dundalk, Co. Louth has put serious volume behind its revival. This 2017 vintage was chosen by the German independent bottler Irish Whiskeys for its Lady of Arms series and released in 2024 as Axe Edition No.1, a run of 288 bottles at 7 Years Old for the German market.
Ex-Bourbon casks laid down vanilla and barley sugar before a Spätburgunder finish, German Pinot Noir wood, worked red cherry and light tannin into the pot still frame of green apple, ginger and black pepper. Bottled at a cask strength of 55.3%, the texture is classically oily and full.
