Description
Katlenburger is a German cellar with a long history in fruit-based drinks, and this is a flavoured sparkling wine rather than a grape sparkling. The base carries a fine bead and is combined with the taste of ripe mango, kept in stainless steel to hold the bright, primary fruit. At 8.3 per cent it is a lighter, sweeter style, built for parties, summer occasions and anyone after a fruity, low-fuss glass. There is no lees ageing or oak; the point here is the tropical fruit and the sparkle.
The colour is a light yellow with a lively bead. The nose is intense ripe mango backed by fresh tropical fruit. The palate is fruity and juicy, the mango carried by pleasant sweetness and a tangy lift, closing fresh and long. Serve well chilled at 6 to 8 degrees in a flute or tumbler. It makes a fruity aperitif and suits light desserts, fruit salads, mango or coconut puddings and sweet-spiced Asian dishes.
