Description
Karuizawa Bright De Luxe is a blended malt whisky from Karuizawa distillery in Nagano Prefecture, one of the commercial domestic releases produced by Mercian before the distillery closed in 2000. As a blended malt it brings together malt whiskies without grain spirit, representing a step up from the standard blend range in the era when Karuizawa served the Japanese market.
Resting in Ex-Bourbon casks, the whisky develops the honeyed cereal and orchard fruit tones typical of bourbon-wood maturation. At 42% it sits in the accessible bracket that defined mainstream Japanese whisky through the 1980s and 1990s. Bottles from this period carry the quiet significance of a functioning distillery that the world would later discover only in its absence.
