Description
This Kapriol is built on the same recipe as the house Dry Gin, made by the Maschio family at Distilleria dell'Alpe in the Veneto. As with their other expressions, the juniper is rested at room temperature for fifteen days before distillation, the spirit run through copper stills that survived the Second World War. The botanical roll is long and Alpine, from bay, chamomile and cardamom through caraway, gentian, hops, mint, pine and rosemary, and here the finished gin is flavoured with lemon and bergamot for a citrus lift the Dry deliberately leaves out.
The nose is intense, fruit and juniper alongside rosemary, mint, pine and lemon. The palate is harmonious and elegant, bay, chamomile, caraway and gentian underpinning bright lemon, bergamot and a soft floral, rose-like note. It finishes long. Pour it into a gin and tonic with a light tonic and a twist of lemon or bergamot peel, or shake it into a citrus-forward gin sour for something fragrant and lively.
