A young agricole-style cane-juice rum bottled by Island Compagnie under the Rhum Island label from Saint Martin, distilled on a column still in 2016, aged three years in ex-bourbon oak and bottled at 45%.
Description
Rhum Island VO 2016 is an agricole-style rum from Saint Martin, distilled from fresh sugar-cane juice rather than molasses and bottled by Island Compagnie. Saint Martin sits outside the French AOC zones, so the rum carries the cane-juice tradition without the protected agricole name, here from a 2016 vintage given three years in ex-bourbon casks.
With no published tasting notes, the character should follow young oak-aged cane juice: a grassy, peppery core picking up light vanilla and toasted oak from the barrel, drier and more vegetal than a sweet molasses rum. At 45% it has a touch more grip than a standard 40% pour, suiting a stirred agricole serve or a Ti' Punch.
