Hazelburn 13 Years Old (Original Collection)

This Hazelburn was from the independent bottler Cadenhead's matured to 13 year old from 2010 and bottled at 46%. Springbank has distilled in Campbeltown since 1828, one of only three distilleries left in Campbeltown. Each bottling is filled and labelled in Campbeltown rather than shipped away.

It was given Hazelburn's full triple distillation from unpeated malt, then cooled slowly in worm tubs. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending vanilla and honey. By this age the light spirit rounds into orchard fruit and a creamy malt. Triple distillation strips the spirit light and clean, leaving a soft, fruity make. The spirit is filled to cask and matured within the distillery walls. Few distilleries keep so much of the old craft alive under one roof. Campbeltown was once the whisky capital of the world, with more than thirty distilleries at its peak. Today just three distilleries survive in the old Kintyre whisky town.

At 46% it is smooth and oily. A vanilla and toffee sweetness meets creamy vanilla and gentle orchard fruit. Soft orchard fruit sits behind the cask sweetness. The close is clean, fruit over light oak. This is the unpeated face of Campbeltown.
