Cooked mash, fresh fruit and a medicinal edge converge in the Hanyu Joker, a cask strength NAS single malt from the closed Saitama distillery, bottled in 2014 at 57.7% as part of the celebrated Card Series that brought Ichiro Akuto’s rescued casks to the world.

Description
Hanyu Joker is a NAS single malt and one of the most recognised releases in the Card Series, the sequence of playing card-labelled bottlings through which Ichiro Akuto brought the rescued Hanyu casks to market after the Saitama distillery closed in 2000. Toa Shuzo, the family company that built Hanyu, had allowed the stock to sit largely forgotten until Akuto, a family descendant, intervened to save it.
Bottled in 2014 at a bracing 57.7% cask strength from Ex-Bourbon maturation, the Joker was a global release. The flavour profile carries cooked mash and fresh fruit alongside a distinctive medicinal note, a combination that speaks to the Hanyu house character at its most direct and unmediated. At full proof with no dilution, the whisky delivers that character with considerable intensity.
