Description
Hanyu Sanmi Ittai Trinitas is Jack Tar's tribute to the Saitama Prefecture distillery that Toa Shuzo operated from the early 1980s until closure in 2000. Ichiro Akuto, a Toa family descendant, saved the remaining casks and made them available to the market; this bottling was drawn by German independent Jack Tar in 2022 for event release at cask strength.
Matured in an Oloroso sherry cask, the whisky shows the dark, fruit-forward character typical of Hanyu in heavy Spanish oak: sultana, dried fig and a gentle leather note underpinned by the warmth of the cask strength spirit. The Trinitas name alludes to a trinity of elements, though the liquid is drawn from a single barrel. At 57%, the sherry influence is weighty but the distillery's underlying fruit and softness remain perceptible.
