Description
This Priccobello Muskateller comes from Weingut Hagn in Mailberg, Lower Austria, and swaps Grüner Veltliner for the perfumed Gelber Muskateller. The grape is prized for its floral, grapey aromatics, and here it is made as a dry frizzante in stainless steel to keep those primary scents intact. There is no oak and no lees influence; the wine relies on aromatic clarity and a fine, lively bead. A touch of residual sugar softens the mid-palate while the overall style stays dry and fresh.
The colour is light yellow-green with a persistent, fine mousse. The nose is markedly floral, with elderflower, white peach and lime zest to the fore. The palate is taut and mineral, a nuance of green apple running through, with a hint of blossom honey on a fresh, long finish. Serve well chilled at 6 to 7 degrees in a tulip glass to gather the aromatics. It makes a fragrant aperitif and handles salads, gently spiced Asian dishes, vegetable plates and light white fish.
