Description
Weingut Hagn sits in Mailberg in the Weinviertel of Lower Austria, and this Priccobello Classic takes the region's signature grape, Grüner Veltliner, into semi-sparkling form. It is a frizzante rather than a fully sparkling wine, made in stainless steel to hold the variety's clarity and fresh, primary character. There is no lees ageing here; the appeal is in the bright fruit and the fine, lively perlage. A little residual sugar, around twelve grams, rounds the edges while the finish stays dry and clean.
The wine is a very pale yellow-green with delicate mousse. The nose gives green apple and grapefruit zest alongside white blossom and a touch of honey. The palate is medium-bodied for a frizzante, with fine bubbles and just a suggestion of sweetness before a fresh, moderately long close. Serve well chilled at 6 to 7 degrees in a white wine glass. It makes an easy aperitif and suits salads, light starters, fresh white fish and soft goat cheese.
