Description
Gran Cava de Oro Plata is the unaged expression of the Cava de Oro range, a Blue Weber tequila made at Tequilera Puerta de Hierro under NOM 1477 in the Los Valles district of Jalisco. As a blanco it is the truest read of the distillery's hand, bottled at or near distillation with no oak to soften the picture. The line has long sold mostly across Mexico and the United States and is treated as a quiet insider name.
With no cask to color it, the spirit shows herbs, citrus fruit, a touch of vanilla sweetness from the cooked agave, and a damp earthy edge that reads as lowland minerality. The valley floor around Jalisco runs to darker volcanic soil, which tends to push tequila toward a drier, earthier, more savory profile than the highlands. The character here is described as wild, original and firm. Bottled at 40%, it is built to be taken neat.
