Description
Gran Cava de Oro Tequila Añejo is a 100% Blue Weber agave Añejo from Tequilera Puerta de Hierro, NOM 1477, in the Los Valles area of Jalisco. What sets it apart is the wood: rather than the usual ex bourbon route, the house leans on ex red wine casks of French white oak alongside American oak, which drives both the intense golden colour and the particular character of the spirit.
The agave is cooked in brick ovens, pressed with a roller mill, then fermented in stainless tanks and twice distilled. Two years in American and French oak follow. The result reads as toasted oak and nut on the nose, with a silky texture, a fresh palate and a long, gently sweet close. Bottled at 40%, it is an aged tequila shaped as much by its red wine cask influence as by the agave.
