Description
Gold Spot marks the top of the Spot range, released in 2022 for the 135th anniversary of Mitchell and Son, the Dublin wine merchants whose paint marked casks gave the family its name. This 9 Years Old single pot still was distilled at Midleton in Co. Cork and bottled at cask strength, 51.4%, in a run of 36,000 bottles for the celebration.
The maturation is unusually layered, ex-bourbon American oak alongside Port pipes and Bordeaux wine casks, drawing red fruit and dark chocolate over the pot still base of honey, vanilla and orchard fruit. The unmalted barley keeps the spice and oily weight that mark the style, and the higher strength gives a fuller, richer finish. Triple distilled and unpeated, from the Irish Distillers pot stills.
