Description
A 9 year old Glendullan from Malts of Scotland, distilled in 2010, from cask MoS 19002, at 50.1%, one of 168 bottles. Glendullan is a Speyside single malt, bottled by Diageo as the Singleton of Glendullan for the American market. Most of its make has always gone to blends, above all Diageo's Old Parr. Within a few years it was supplied to King Edward VII by royal request, from 1902. It was the last of the Dufftown stills, the town said to stand on seven stills as Rome stands on seven hills.
The spirit was drawn from a long fermentation, shaping a green, malty Speyside character. It was fully matured in an Oloroso cask, the wood deep in the fruity spirit. Young and extractive, the cask sheds vanillin and toasted sugars over the clean, fruity spirit. Long ageing turns the fresh green notes towards orchard fruit, honey and a gentle spice. The fresh, fruity spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out a soft honey.
At its natural 50.1% it is full and fruity. A fresh, fruity malt with a green edge, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A light orchard fruit and a soft spice give it shape. It finishes light, fresh and grassy. This is the lightly fruity malt of Dufftown.
