Description
A distillery release of Glendullan, a 12 year old, at 47%. Glendullan is a Speyside single malt, founded in 1897 in Dufftown, the last of the town's seven distilleries. It sits on the banks of the River Fiddich, in the heart of Speyside. It runs long fermentations and a slow distillation for a green, grassy, lightly fruity spirit. Its water rises at the Goats Well spring in the Conval Hills above the distillery.
The spirit was drawn from a long fermentation, building a clean malt of orchard fruit and a grassy edge. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak gentle behind the fruity spirit. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin rounding out as esters lend a riper orchard and tropical fruit. Because the long fermentation keeps the spirit fresh and grassy, the cask shows clearly with time. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit.
At 47%, undiluted, it is rich and fruity. A fresh orchard fruit and a malty sweetness, lifted by a soft oak. A green apple and a gentle citrus lift the middle. The finish is light, fruity and clean. This is the lightly fruity malt of Dufftown.
