Description
Spiriti Leggendari bottled this Glenburgie, a 14 year old, distilled in 2010, at 53%. Glenburgie is a Speyside single malt made near Alves in Moray, east of Forres. Most of its make goes quietly to blends; single malt Glenburgie is rare, and largely from independents. It has belonged to Chivas Brothers, part of Pernod Ricard, since 2005.
Distilled in tall onion shaped pot stills, for a light body with a gentle, waxy edge. Maturation came in an Oloroso cask, layered over the fresh Glenburgie make. By the integrating teens the raw notes fade and esters build, the fruity spirit growing rounder and a touch waxy. Active wood frames the fruit without ever crowding the Speyside spirit. A soft waxiness from the spirit carries a thread through the maturation. Built for the blender's art, the make ages with quiet grace as a single malt.
At a hearty 53% it carries real weight. A soft, orchard led sweetness with a floral lift, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. It is soft and gently waxy, the light spirit shining through. Green apple, honey and a soft oak see it out. This is a light, fruity Speyside single malt.
