Description
This Glenburgie comes from Signatory Vintage, the Edinburgh house that bottles at Edradour above Pitlochry, a 12 year old, distilled in 2007, from cask 900076, at 64%, one of the festival bottlings. Glenburgie is a Speyside single malt, a blending malt rarely seen on its own and largely the work of independents. It sits near Alves in Moray, east of Forres, in the heart of Speyside. It has belonged to Chivas Brothers, part of Pernod Ricard, since 2005. It has been a core malt of the Ballantine's blend since Hiram Walker bought it in 1936.
Distilled from unpeated malt, for a light body with a gentle, waxy edge. It was finished in an Oloroso cask, the wood building on the light, fruity spirit. In integration coconut and vanilla knit with the malt, the apple softening towards a waxy honey. A soft waxiness from the spirit carries a thread through the maturation. Active wood frames the fruit without ever crowding the Speyside spirit.
At a natural 64% it is full and waxy. A delicate, soft malt with a waxy edge, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Soft apple and a waxy honey sit behind the cask. A long, fruity finish carries a waxy honey. This is the fragrant blending malt of Alves.
