Description
This official GlenAllachie, a 13 year old, from 2007, cask 4635, at 59.5%. GlenAllachie is a Speyside single malt from the hills above Aberlour, below Ben Rinnes. It was bought in 2017 by Billy Walker and two partners, fresh from selling BenRiach, GlenDronach and Glenglassaugh. Under Walker it turned to single malt, with heavy maturation in sherry and wine casks.
Distilled to a full, generous cut, for a full make built to take active wood. A Red Wine cask held it, drawing the rich spirit on over the years. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin rounding out as esters lend riper orchard fruit and a chocolate depth. The wood frames the spirit without ever stripping the full Speyside body. Years in oak deepen the spirit to a darker gold, the body growing rounder and more resinous with time. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit.
At its natural 59.5% it is rich and chewy. A rich orchard sweetness and dark sugar, with red berry and a dry spice from the cask. The body is full and rich, the fruit deep and dark. It finishes long, full and fruity. This is GlenAllachie's deep, fruity Speyside style.
