Description
A distillery release of GlenAllachie, a 14 year old, from 2009, cask 3720, at 58.4%, 308 bottles in all. GlenAllachie is a rich, sherried Speyside malt from Aberlour, built on full bodied spirit and active casks. It matures its spirit in sixteen dunnage warehouses on the distillery site at Aberlour. It was bought in 2017 by Billy Walker and two partners, fresh from selling BenRiach, GlenDronach and Glenglassaugh. It was built for the 1960s blend boom, its make long destined for the blender's vat.
The spirit was worked unhurried through the stillhouse, for a full make built to take active wood. It was matured in a Sauternes cask, the wood working deep into the malt. In integration coconut and vanilla knit with the malt, the orchard notes deepening to sultana, date and chocolate. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit.
At a natural 58.4% it is full and rich. A rich, sherried sweetness, with honeyed apricot and a candied citrus from the cask. The body is full and rich, the fruit deep and dark. Dried fruit, spice and a soft oak see it out. This is a rich, sherried Speyside single malt.
