An official GlenAllachie, a 17 year old, at 58.1%. Raisin, chocolate and a warm spice run through it, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Built for the blend boom of the 1960s, now a sherry led single malt. Its four stills carry downward angled lyne arms for a fuller spirit. This is GlenAllachie’s deep, fruity Speyside style.

Description
GlenAllachie from the distillery, a 17 year old, at 58.1%, 3000 bottles in all. GlenAllachie is a rich, sherried Speyside malt from Aberlour, built on full bodied spirit and active casks. It matures its spirit in sixteen dunnage warehouses on the distillery site at Aberlour. Its stills were doubled from two to four within months of opening, the lyne arms angled down for a fuller spirit. It was bought in 2017 by Billy Walker and two partners, fresh from selling BenRiach, GlenDronach and Glenglassaugh.
It was distilled in copper pot stills, shaping a rich Speyside body with real weight. It was fully matured in an Oloroso cask, the wood deep in the rich spirit. At oxidative maturity aldehydes lend a nutty edge while ellagitannins draw a drying, structured grip across the fruit. Active first fill wood drives the maturation, the cask deep in the malt. The full bodied spirit takes active wood well, carrying its dark sugars through the years.
At a hearty 58.1% it carries real weight. Orange, raisin and a treacle edge, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Fig, honey and a dark chocolate fill the middle. A deep finish ends on dried fruit and a dark chocolate. This is a Speyside single malt of real standing.
