Description
A 14 year old GlenAllachie from Berry Bros and Rudd, distilled in 2008, from cask 80901090, at 64.7%, one of 598 bottles. GlenAllachie is a Speyside single malt, revived in 2017 by the team of Billy Walker. Its stills were doubled from two to four within months of opening, the lyne arms angled down for a fuller spirit. It was mothballed in 1985 and reopened in 1989, a modern distillery by Speyside standards.
The spirit was drawn from a thick, full bodied wash, for a thick, ester rich spirit the casks then deepen. It was fully matured in an Oloroso cask, the wood deep in the rich spirit. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin rounding out as esters lend riper orchard fruit and a chocolate depth. Maturation runs slow and even in the on site dunnage warehouses at Aberlour. The wood frames the spirit without ever stripping the full Speyside body.
Bottled at a cask strength 64.7%, it is deep and concentrated. A rich, sherried sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A baked apple and a warm cinnamon lift the middle. The finish runs long, full and warming. This is a Speyside single malt of real standing.
