An official release of Glen Scotia, a 9 year old, from 2013, cask 21/44-6, at 56.2%, 300 bottles in all. Glen Scotia is a salty, oily Campbeltown malt from the west coast of Scotland. Campbeltown, the Wee Toon, once held some thirty distilleries and was the whisky capital of the world.

It was worked through the stills for an oily, coastal make, for an oily spirit with a coastal, salted edge. A Pedro Ximenez cask held it, shaping the coastal spirit over the years. At an extractive age eugenol lends a clove note and lactones a coconut, the spirit fresh, oily and coastal. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the briny Campbeltown spirit. Long ageing turns the fresh citrus towards dried fruit, salted toffee and a soft spice. The cool, salt laden Campbeltown air gives a slow, coastal maturation in the warehouses. Crosshill Loch water and a long ferment give the oily, coastal Glen Scotia make.

At cask strength 56.2% it is full bodied. Citrus, salt and a soft vanilla, with raisin, date and treacle from the cask. A baked apple and a sea salt lift it. A long, oily finish carries a sea salt and a citrus. This is Glen Scotia's coastal, briny Campbeltown style.
