An official release of Glen Scotia, a 7 year old, from 2015, cask 21/77-3, at 56.4%, 311 bottles in all. Glen Scotia is a Campbeltown single malt made on Crosshill Loch water in the Wee Toon. The Glen was added to the Scotia name around 1930, the distillery dating to 1832.

The spirit was worked through the stills for an oily, coastal make, giving a coastal, briny Campbeltown spirit. It was matured in a Port cask, the wood working into the oily malt. In these extractive early years the oak gives vanillin as vanilla and oak lactones as coconut over a briny, oily spirit. Maturation in the Campbeltown warehouses, by the sea, lends a coastal edge. Long ageing turns the fresh citrus towards dried fruit, salted toffee and a soft spice. Its water is drawn from Crosshill Loch above the town. A gentle maturation suits the oily make, the sea salt and toffee growing with time.

At a hearty 56.4% it carries real weight. Citrus, salt and a soft vanilla, with red berry, plum and a dry spice from the cask. A baked apple and a sea salt lift it. A long, oily finish carries a sea salt and a citrus. This is a maritime Campbeltown single malt.
