This official Glen Scotia, an 8 year old, from 2012, cask 19/660-8, at 55.6%, 301 bottles in all. Glen Scotia is a Campbeltown single malt known for sea salt, oil and a salted toffee. It is one of only three working distilleries left in Campbeltown, with Springbank and Glengyle.

It was run through the stills and shell and tube condensers on Crosshill Loch water, building a maritime character of sea salt and oil. Finished in a Port cask, the wood building over the oily, coastal spirit. Young and extractive, the cask sheds vanillin (vanilla) and toasted sugars (light caramel) over the salty make. The maritime setting on the Kintyre coast threads salt and brine through the spirit. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the briny Campbeltown spirit. Its water is drawn from Crosshill Loch above the town. A gentle maturation suits the oily make, the sea salt and toffee growing with time.

At a hearty 55.6% it carries real weight. A briny, oily coastal fruit, with red berry, plum and a dry spice from the cask. The texture is oily and coating, the fruit lifted by vanilla. The finish is long, oily and salted. This is the oily, salted malt of the Wee Toon.
