Description
This official Glen Scotia, an 8 year old, from 2017, cask 24/503-4, at 57.5%, 227 bottles in all. Glen Scotia is a maritime Campbeltown malt, one of the last three of a town that once held thirty. Its water is drawn from Crosshill Loch above the town.
The spirit was distilled slowly in a single pair of stills for an oily, coastal make, for a briny, oily make of salt, citrus and a salted toffee. A Red Wine cask held it, shaping the coastal spirit over the years. In these extractive early years the oak gives vanillin as vanilla and oak lactones as coconut over a briny, oily spirit. Crosshill Loch water and a long ferment give the oily, coastal Glen Scotia make. The oily, coastal spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and brine to the fore. A long ferment gives a fruity make that ages with a coastal, oily grace. A gentle maturation suits the oily make, the sea salt and toffee growing with time.
At a hearty 57.5% it carries real weight. Sea salt, citrus and a salted toffee, with red berry and a dry spice from the cask. Beneath it run citrus, salt and a soft oil. The finish is long, oily and salted. This is an oily, coastal malt from the Kintyre coast.
