Description
This official Glen Scotia, a 10 year old, from 2006, cask 536, at 56.9%. Glen Scotia is a Campbeltown single malt from the Loch Lomond Group, salty and oily in style. Its malt comes from Greencore Maltings in southwest Scotland.
Distilled slowly in a single pair of stills for an oily, coastal make, for the salty, oily make Glen Scotia is known for. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the coastal spirit. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the salty, oily spirit growing rounder. The maritime setting on the Kintyre coast threads salt and brine through the spirit. A gentle maturation suits the oily make, the sea salt and toffee growing with time. The Campbeltown style is oily and salted, the cask deepening it over the years. It has been owned by the Loch Lomond Group since the 1990s, after many changes of hands. Its long ferment, averaging well over a hundred hours, builds a fruity, coastal character.
At cask strength 56.9% it is full bodied. Baked apple, brine and a creamy oil, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run citrus, salt and a soft oil. The finish is rounded, salted and oily. This is one of the last three Campbeltown malts.
