Description
An official release of Glen Scotia, at 46%, 860 bottles in all. Glen Scotia is a Campbeltown single malt from the Loch Lomond Group, salty and oily in style. It is one of only three working distilleries left in Campbeltown, with Springbank and Glengyle.
It was made on Crosshill Loch water in the heart of Campbeltown, for an oily spirit with a coastal, salted edge. An Oloroso cask held it, shaping the coastal spirit over the years. With no age statement, the oak has given vanillin as vanilla and oak lactones as coconut over the salty, oily spirit. Refill oak lets the salty, oily Glen Scotia character lead the way. Its Victoriana and single cask releases have won the distillery wide acclaim. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the briny Campbeltown spirit. Its malt comes from Greencore Maltings in southwest Scotland. It runs a single pair of stills and shell and tube condensers for a slow, oily make.
At 46% it is clean and oily. A briny, oily coastal fruit, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Beneath it run citrus, salt and a soft oil. The finish is rounded, salted and oily. This is a Campbeltown single malt of real character.
