This official Glen Scotia, a 12 year old, at 46%. Glen Scotia is a Campbeltown single malt made on Crosshill Loch water in the Wee Toon. The Glen was added to the Scotia name around 1930, the distillery dating to 1832.

Distilled slow for the salty, oily Glen Scotia style, giving a coastal, briny Campbeltown spirit. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the oily spirit. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the spirit, the brine deepening over a salted toffee. The Campbeltown style is oily and salted, the cask deepening it over the years. A former owner, Duncan MacCallum, drowned in the loch that fed the distillery, and is said to haunt it. Its malt comes from Greencore Maltings in southwest Scotland. It runs a single pair of stills and shell and tube condensers for a slow, oily make. A gentle maturation suits the oily make, the sea salt and toffee growing with time.

At an approachable 46% it is soft and coastal. A coastal, oily sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run citrus, salt and a soft oil. The close is oily and salted, fruit over a gentle oak. This is a Campbeltown single malt of real character.
