Description
A 10 year old Glen Scotia from the German retailer Whisky.de, distilled in 2013, bottled at 46%, one of 14861 bottles. Glen Scotia is a Campbeltown single malt made on Crosshill Loch water in the Wee Toon. It sits on High Street in Campbeltown, on the Kintyre peninsula on the west coast.
It was distilled slowly in a single pair of stills for an oily, coastal make, building the Campbeltown Glen Scotia style. Finished in a Port cask, the wood building over the oily, coastal spirit. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the malt, the body oilier and the salt softer. Long ageing turns the fresh citrus towards dried fruit, salted toffee and a soft spice. Its malt comes from Greencore Maltings in southwest Scotland. A long ferment gives a fruity make that ages with a coastal, oily grace. It is one of only three working distilleries left in Campbeltown, with Springbank and Glengyle.
At an approachable 46% it is soft and coastal. Citrus, salt and a soft vanilla, with red berry, plum and a dry spice from the cask. A baked apple and a sea salt lift it. It finishes long, briny and oily. This is an oily, coastal malt from the Kintyre coast.
