Description
From the Pitlochry bottler Signatory Vintage, a 25 year old Glen Keith, distilled in 1991, from cask 73651+73653, bottled at 48.2%, one of 344 bottles. Glen Keith is a Speyside single malt made behind Strathisla, mostly for the Chivas blends. It was the first distillery in Scotland to use gas fired direct heating.
It was worked through the tall stills for a light, sweet make, for a light, elegant spirit with a soft malt. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the fruit. In the oxidative, evaporative years concentration brings tropical fruit, honey and a waxy depth over the apple. Balloch Hill water and the tall stills give the light Glen Keith make. It was mothballed in 1999 and revived by Pernod Ricard in 2013 after a full refit. Its first permanent single malt was released in 2017, the Distillery Edition. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards tropical fruit, honey and a soft spice.
At cask strength 48.2% it is full bodied. A light, orchard fruit and citrus, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is light and clean, the fruit lifted by vanilla. The finish is rounded, fruity and clean. This is Glen Keith's clean, fruity Speyside style.
