Description
A 21 year old Glen Keith from the bottler Silver Seal, distilled in 1992, bottled at 52.1%, one of 115 bottles. Glen Keith, founded in 1957, was Seagram's innovation plant on Speyside. It was built in 1957 by Seagram on the site of a meal mill, directly behind Strathisla.
The spirit was worked through the tall stills for a light, sweet make, building a light, fruity character of green apple and pear. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the light spirit. Into oxidative maturity, slow air ingress builds fruity ethyl esters (apple and pear) and a honeyed depth. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Glen Keith warehouses. It sits within sight of Strathisla, the oldest distillery in Scotland. Built for the blender's art, the spirit ages with grace as a single malt. Much of the Glen Keith make went to the blenders, a little kept as single malt.
At a natural 52.1% it is full and fruity. Baked apple, citrus and a creamy vanilla, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Soft orchard fruit and a clean malt sit behind the cask. A long, fruity finish carries a green apple and a soft spice. This is the light, fresh malt of Keith.
