Description
The bottler Malts of Scotland bottled this Glen Keith, a 20 year old, distilled in 1993, from cask MoS 13046, bottled at 54.2%, one of 212 bottles. Glen Keith is a modern Speyside malt on Balloch Hill water, built in the 1950s. It was mothballed in 1999 and revived by Pernod Ricard in 2013 after a full refit.
It was drawn off the stills for a clean, fruity Speyside spirit, for a light, elegant spirit with a soft malt. First fill bourbon gave a fuller vanilla and a touch of coconut from the lactones. Through oxidative maturity esters concentrate, the apple turning honeyed and a soft tropical fruit creeping in. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Glen Keith warehouses. Its first permanent single malt was released in 2017, the Distillery Edition. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. Maturation in the racked warehouses at Keith is slow and steady.
At a natural 54.2% it is full and fruity. A fresh, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run green apple, pear and a soft vanilla. It finishes light, fresh and fruity. This is Glen Keith's clean, fruity Speyside style.
