Description
From the bottler Jack Wiebers Whisky World, a 19 year old Glen Keith, distilled in 1995, bottled at 53.5%, one of 156 bottles. Glen Keith is a light, fruity Speyside malt, built in 1957 as Seagram's experimental distillery. It was built in 1957 by Seagram on the site of a meal mill, directly behind Strathisla.
It was distilled from unpeated malt in tall, narrowing stills, for the light, fruity make Glen Keith is known for. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the light spirit. Into oxidative maturity, slow air ingress builds fruity ethyl esters (apple and pear) and a honeyed depth. The clean, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. Its first permanent single malt was released in 2017, the Distillery Edition. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards tropical fruit, honey and a soft spice.
Bottled at a cask strength 53.5%, it is rich. Green apple, honey and a soft malt, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is light and clean, the fruit lifted by vanilla. Apple, pear and a soft oak see out the finish. This is a clean, fruity Speyside single malt.
