Description
Weingut Frauwallner work in Vulkanland Steiermark in south-east Austria, where volcanic soils and a cool climate suit fresh, aromatic whites. This frizzante is made from Gelber Muskateller, the yellow Muscat grape prized for its heady floral and grapey scent. The base wine is kept in stainless steel to protect the delicate aromatics, then given a light, gentle fizz as a semi sparkling wine rather than a full bottle fermentation. Bottled young and dry, it keeps its primary fruit and a lively bead.
The wine is a pale straw with a fine perlage. The nose is openly aromatic, with elderflower, white flowers and a grapey Muscat tone over white peach and grapefruit. The palate is fresh and dry, with a clean citrus edge balancing the floral fruit, closing crisp and lively. Serve well chilled at 6 to 8 degrees in a white wine glass. A fragrant aperitif that suits fresh salads, lighter fish, summer starters and soft goat cheese on a warm evening.
