A light-bodied 5 Year Old Barbados rum of vanilla, caramel and gentle oak with praline and cocoa, this unsweetened Foursquare blend is approachable neat but really comes alive as a mixer at 40%.
Description
The Real McCoy 5 Years is an entry point into Foursquare, the St Philip distillery led by Richard Seale and known for its strict no-additives stance. A young blend of pot and column still rum aged five years in ex-bourbon oak, it keeps the classic balanced Bajan shape in a lighter, more everyday format at 40%.
The pot-and-column makeup brings cleaner column spirit together with richer double-retort pot still, here in a gentle, light-bodied frame. Vanilla, caramel and soft oak lead, with praline and cocoa filling the palate and a woody, vanilla-tinged finish. Unsweetened, with no added sugar or flavour, it tastes honest and dry, a touch bolder and woodier than the lightest island blends. It can be sipped neat, but its real strength is as a mixer, holding its own in a rum and cola or a simple unsweetened cocktail.
