Flor de Caña Family Legacy (19 Years Old)

Family Legacy is a long aged release from Flor de Caña, the Nicaraguan distillery that ages slowly and adds no sugar, giving a cleaner, more spirit forward profile than most Spanish style ron. Built from column distilled molasses spirit and carried to nineteen years, this expression takes a Cognac cask finish that lends extra fruit and a fine, brandy like lift to the dry Nicaraguan core.

The nose leans fruity and woody with sweet notes and a clear Cognac influence, while the palate brings caramel, caramelised sugar and prune before a spicy, woody finish with a touch of sharpness. The alcohol shows a little at 45%, giving spice and warmth, and because nothing is added the sweetness reads as fruit and oak rather than dosage.
