Fettercairn 30 Years Old

An official release of Fettercairn, a 30 year old, at 45%. Fettercairn is a Highland malt of pineapple and citrus, distilled at the foot of the mountains. In 2018 the distillery relaunched with a new core range under maker Gregg Glass.

Made on mountain water with the stills drenched in cold water, the cooling rings lifting a clean, tropical character. First fill bourbon gave a fuller vanilla and a touch of coconut from the lactones. Ethereal and fragile, decades draw the fruit to a honeyed, resinous depth of sotolon, coffee and old oak. Mountain spring water and the cooling rings give the tropical Fettercairn make. Maturation on site in the Fettercairn dunnage warehouses is slow and steady. It uses unpeated malt and matures mostly in American oak ex-Bourbon casks. The cooling rings raise reflux and copper contact, so only the lightest vapours rise, for a tropical spirit.

At 45% it is clean and soft. A clean, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A dried fruit and a soft oak give it depth. The close is light and warming, fruit over a gentle oak. This is the light, fruit driven malt of Fettercairn.
