This Fettercairn was bottled by the Campbeltown house Cadenhead, a 19 year old, distilled in 1993, bottled at 55.9%, one of 258 bottles. Fettercairn is a Highland single malt from Whyte and Mackay, known for pineapple and tropical fruit. It was the second distillery licensed in Scotland after the Excise Act of 1823.
Drawn off the stills, the cooling rings raising reflux for a fruity spirit, building the tropical Fettercairn style. Finished in a Port cask, the wood building over the fruity, light spirit. At oxidative maturity vanillin and lactones are fully expressed, the fruit deepening over a soft spice. A gentle maturation suits the light make, the tropical fruit growing richer with time. The clean, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore. It has been owned by Whyte and Mackay since 1973. After Ramsay lost his fortune, the Fasque estate passed to the Gladstone family in 1829.
At its natural 55.9% it is concentrated. A clean, fruity sweetness, with red berry, plum and a dry spice from the cask. The mouthfeel is clean, the fruit carried on a light body. The finish runs long, tropical and warming. This is a light, tropical Highland single malt.
