Description
This Fettercairn was bottled by Finn Thomson, an 18 year old, distilled in 2007, from cask 17602207, bottled at 54.6%, one of 253 bottles. Fettercairn is a Highland single malt shaped by the unique cooling rings on its stills. It uses unpeated malt and matures mostly in American oak ex-Bourbon casks.
It was worked through the cooling ring stills for a clean, fruity make, for the tropical, fruity make Fettercairn is known for. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the light, tropical character to the fore. Into oxidative maturity, slow air ingress builds fruity ethyl esters (pineapple and pear) and a honeyed depth. Refill oak lets the light, tropical Fettercairn character lead the way. Mountain spring water and the cooling rings give the tropical Fettercairn make. Years in oak round the spirit, the pineapple and citrus deepening to a mango.
At its natural 54.6% it is concentrated. Mango, citrus and a soft honey, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A baked pineapple and a gentle spice lift it. A long, fruity finish carries a tropical fruit and a soft spice. This is Fettercairn, one of Scotland's oldest licensed distilleries.
