A 14 year old Fettercairn from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, 2009, at 57.6%. A light, tropical fruit over a clean body, with raisin, date and treacle from the cask. Once owned by the Gladstone family, whose son William became Prime Minister. Its make matures on site in dunnage warehouses. This is the cooling ring malt of the Mearns.

Description
A 14 year old Fettercairn from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, distilled in 2009, from cask 94.42, bottled at 57.6%, one of 221 bottles. Fettercairn is a Highland single malt whose tropical character comes from water cooled stills. It was founded in 1824 by Sir Alexander Ramsay, who turned a corn mill at Nethermill into a distillery.
Distilled from unpeated malt in stills cooled by their copper rings, giving the light, pineapple led Highland spirit. Finished in a Pedro Ximenez cask, the wood building over the fruity, light spirit. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the spirit, the pineapple deepening to a mango. Years in oak round the spirit, the pineapple and citrus deepening to a mango. Long ageing turns the fresh tropical fruit towards dried mango, coffee and a soft spice. Maturation on site in the Fettercairn dunnage warehouses is slow and steady.
Bottled at a cask strength 57.6%, it is rich. A clean, fruity sweetness, with raisin, date and treacle from the cask. A baked pineapple and a gentle spice lift it. The finish is rounded, tropical and gently spiced. This is a tropical Highland malt from the foot of the mountains.
